StillSet tidies one folder of photos on your Mac. It groups the folder into moments, finds exact duplicates and bursts, suggests one to keep in each group, and moves the rest into a quarantine folder — where you can put any of them back at any time. If you turn it on, it can also rename photos or sort them into folders, always from a checklist you confirm.

The extras move into a StillSet Quarantine folder inside the folder you chose, on the same disk. Put back a single photo or a whole run whenever you want. Every run is recorded.

Nowhere far. Photos that StillSet sets aside are moved into a subfolder named StillSet Quarantine inside the folder you chose, with one subfolder per run. They stay on the same disk and you can see them in Finder.

Open Quarantine in StillSet. You can restore a single photo to its original location, or restore everything from one run at once. You can also do this from the results page right after a run.

StillSet does not delete files on its own. A file is deleted only when you choose Delete permanently in Quarantine or on the results page, and then confirm a second time. After that, StillSet cannot bring the file back — so only do this when you are sure.

A run of photos taken close together in time and place. StillSet splits a folder after a gap of two hours (change it in Settings) or when the place changes.

StillSet runs on macOS 26 or later, but moment names that describe the photos need Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 (turned on in System Settings). Without it, StillSet names moments by date and what it recognised: on macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, the on-device model writes a name from the date and the recognised labels; if the model isn’t available, the name is the date plus those labels.

StillSet runs in the macOS App Sandbox, so it can only read and change the folder you pick yourself. It remembers that permission (with a macOS security bookmark) so you don’t have to pick the same folder again next time. It has no access to the rest of your Mac.

Settings → General → Quarantine folder offers two places: Inside the source folder, same disk (the default) or In Pictures. In the current version the Pictures option is not available yet: runs still use the source folder, and the checklist tells you so before anything moves.

No. StillSet does not open or change the Photos app library, and it never edits or re-saves the contents of your photos. It works on files in the folder you chose: it moves them, and — only if you turn on renaming or sorting into folders — renames them or puts them in folders, always as listed in the checklist you confirm, and every change can be undone.
